2019 Community Engagement Award
PHILLIPS Programs for Children and Families is pleased to announce this year’s Community Engagement Award winners: Lynda Mann and YouthQuest Foundation for their work to ensure that all youth are afforded the opportunities to gain skills that will lead them to sustainable employment after graduation from high school.
Lynda Mann is the Co-Founder and President of The YouthQuest Foundation. YouthQuest, now in its 14th year, providing critical thinking and problem solving skills to at-risk youth utilizes cutting-edge Computer Aided Design and 3D Printing curriculum and instruction to key at-risk cohorts including high school dropouts, youth on the autism spectrum, and low income youth struggling to retain learning over summer breaks.
In partnership with Youth Quest Foundation, PHILLIPS Programs launched its’Designing Futures program – a curriculum utilizing 3D design and print software donated by YouthQuest Foundation to teach students the design and print process - which operates at PHILLIPS Schools Annandale and Fairfax and also offers a summer program for youth with autism in the broad community.
A career military officer, Mann has consulted at all organizational levels within government and the private sector. She has many awards and recognition to her credit, including two lifetime achievement awards from The March of Dimes (Heroines of Washington DC) and from the State of Maryland. Both are for her lifetime dedication to serving others.
